Vallejo model air Metallic

Hi,

I am using mostly Vallejo colors. All the none metallic colors are easy to spray and look magnificent. Yet when I try to spray the metallic colors it seems to clutter up the airbrush very fast. I tried to use normal Airbrush thinner with the paint, but it doesn't seem like it is solving the issue with the clutter.
I am wondering if I should use isopropanol to thin these metallic paints just like the Vallejo liquid gold.

Or can I basically use the Vallejo liquid gold in the airbrush if thinned enough with isopropanol ?

Any suggestions what to do ?

Thanks !

Try Vallejo Glaze medium, it will help the flow of the metallic colours and should prevent clutter a bit (it will still clutt, but later)

I would never use Liquid gold in an airbrush as it will be a nightmare to clean up (you could get actual rust in your airbrush)

Hi bonemaw, I pretty much agree with thepaintedminiatures, I'm certainly not an expert airbrusher but have had pretty good results with Vallejo metallics and glaze medium as a thinner.

I also use the Vallejo Model Air metallics with either no thinner or a drop of glaze medium with pretty good results.

What nozzle size are you using? I saw a definite increase in the amount of spraying I could do before it clogged up using a 0.4 rather than a 0.2, I think the metal flakes get stuck in the smaller nozzle more quickly.

With regard to the Liquid Gold, I suspect that it has a high density of metal flakes or big flakes which is why it looks so good, but I think it wouldn't help it get through an airbrush without getting stuck.

Cheers Sam

Thanks for the replies!

I will get hold of this glaze medium and give it a try.

Currently I am using a 0.2 nozzle which is probably also why it is clogging up :)

Cheers :)

You need to know your "Painting Conditions"

Model color or Game color Extra Opaque Colors, need to be Thinner minimun of 6 thinner drops for 1 color drop.

Think Model color or game color no are made to airbrush, then you need to thinner a lot of.

try this 6/1 portion 8/1 and 12/1 check that in a litle plastic vessel.
Check which of these portions are more like milk for that color you want to use. Every color its diferent, Time you open the bottle, temperature room, humidity in air, etc....
I live near 30? and 80% humidity in air for more than 6 month in a year, and i think Jaroslaw "painting conditions" not are the same than mine.

Model Air have a basic and good metals cataloge, i suggest you get these to get more easy way.
