Paint Splattering/Runny

jgascoine011 2014-02-20 12:20:55
Hi
When i paint close to the miniature i get really runny/splattering of the paint and i am not too sure why.

I am using vallejo model air paints and not adding in any extra paint. I am also using a double action airbrush with a compressor.

Any ideas as to what i am doing wrong?

I am wanting to paint thin lines for highlighting so i need to be up close to the miniature for this.

Thanks for your help

Sound like your PSI is to high on your compressor. But practice does help.

Im also getting started with my airbrush, I am most positive its the PSI thats causing the issue. If you have a double action airbrush it should give you the freedom to get those fine lines and control the width of the airflow.

Had almost the same problems. First my AB gets clogged all the time (0,2mm). Then I made myself a paint thinner and thinned them really to milk consistency (no kidding...serious!). By then the clogging was reduced a lot. But the paint smeared a lot barely covering the surface. I reduced my psi to 0.8 for short range work and to 1.4 for larger areas and now I am (zufrieden auf engisch?) satisfied?! with the results. Maybe that helps a bit. DONT USE ALCOHOL FOR VALLEJO COLOURS...THEY WILL FLOCK OUT!

It sounds to me that your pressure is a bit high i run between 20 and 40 psi, keep your airbrush clean bits of paint sticking to your needleor nozzel can cause a kind of kneejerk action to your trigger also you could try to adjust the sensetivity of your trigger so its not all or nothing i use badger airbruses and its easy to adjust check you tube vids for your make and model of airbrush on how to do this but i guess most are the same or similar. i use needle juice airbrush lube to keep all the action smooth and coating your needle in this will also help reduce drytip and bloackages. practice practice practice and youl get there

Make sure you shake the paint well before use. Vallejo paints (like most) do not stay mixed when unused, this makes the low density fluids to be at the top.

hope youll fix it!
